What is Mercy Medical Angels?
Mercy Medical Angels is a nonprofit organization that provides free transportation assistance to people who need to travel for medical care but cannot afford it. We offer three types of transportation: ground transportation (gas cards, Uber/Lyft vouchers and bus and train tickets),private pilot flights through Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic and commercial airline assistance. All services are provided at no cost or minimal cost to you.
What happens after I submit my request?
After you submit your request, we review your information and verify your appointment details and documentation. We determine the best transportation option based on distance, medical needs and availability, matching you with ground transportation, a private pilot flight or a commercial airline ticket. We contact you within 24-48 business hours with a call or email confirming if you are approved, or if there are any missing documents and what to expect next. Once everything is recieved, we coordinate your trip, arrange your transportation, send travel details and answer any questions you may have. Our team is available if you need support along the way.
How long does the approval process take?
<p id="">Most requests are reviewed and approved within 24-48 business hours of submission. Within 24-48 business hours, our team reviews your request and any required documents. Within 2 business days, you'll receive a phone call or email with next steps. After all required documents are received, final approval and travel details are confirmed within 3-5 business days. Commercial flight itineraries are typically issued about 4 weeks before travel, while timing for private pilot flights may vary based on aircraft and pilot availability. For ground transportation, reimbursement gas cards are usually sent after travel is completed as a reimbursement. How do I request transportation assistance?
Requesting assistance takes about 10-15 minutes and can be done entirely online. Visit our website and click "Start My Request," then provide information about yourself, your appointment and your medical travel needs. Upload the two required documents: appointment verification and proof of income. Submit your request and our team will contact you within 24-48 business hours.
