1972
Founded as Washington Aviation Ministry with a borrowed airplane and a bold vision to help patients reach life-saving care.
1990
Launched the National Patient Travel Helpline, becoming a nationwide resource for patients in need.
2007
Mobilized critical disaster relief during Hurricane Katrina, proving our rapid-response capability in times of crisis.
2010
Expanded beyond aviation with the Angel Bus ground transportation program—because not every journey requires wings.
2012
Reached a milestone of 100,000 patient trips served since founding.
2013
Revolutionized charitable medical transport with automated systems, scaling to 3,200 ground trips per month.
2014
Rebranded as Mercy Medical Angels to reflect our expanded mission and trademarked services.
2020
Surpassed 400,000 total patient trips, proving our resilience—and our patients'—during a global pandemic.
2024
Delivered over 53,000 patient trips in a single year, our highest annual impact to date.
