Turning Meals Into Miles: How a Virginia Beach Taphouse Supported Patient Travel April 2026

A New Restaurant, A Shared Mission to Give Back

When a new taphouse opened its doors in Virginia Beach in January 2026, it brought more than just a fresh dining experience to the community—it introduced a powerful commitment to giving back. With a vision rooted in supporting local Hampton Roads nonprofit organizations, the team at Sedona Taphouse set out to make a meaningful difference from day one.

That vision quickly found alignment with Mercy Medical Angels.

After learning about the organization’s impact across the Seven Cities, General Manager Chuck was struck by the scale and urgency of the mission. In just one year, Mercy Medical Angels provided 3,080 trips, helping patients access transportation to medical care across the country. Behind each of those trips is a story of determination, resilience and hope—patients who simply needed a way to get to life-saving treatment.

Inspired by that impact, Sedona Taphouse chose Mercy Medical Angels as a featured partner for its March Dine Out for Charity initiative.

A Community Effort Served Every Monday Night

Throughout the month of March, each Monday evening at Sedona Taphouse became more than just a night out—it became an opportunity to give back. Through the Dine Out for Charity program, guests were invited to enjoy a special menu where 50% of the price of select items would directly benefit Mercy Medical Angels.

Families gathered around tables, friends met after work and community members came together, knowing their meals were helping patients reach critical care.

The concept was simple but powerful: turning everyday dining into meaningful impact.

Each plate served represented more than great food—it symbolized compassion in action. It showed how small choices, like where to eat dinner, can ripple outward into life-changing outcomes for others.

From Awareness to Action

For many guests, March marked their first introduction to Mercy Medical Angels. Learning that thousands of individuals in their own community rely on assistance to access transportation to medical care was eye-opening.

The number—3,080 trips in just one year—sparked conversations at tables and among staff. It highlighted a reality many people don’t often consider: getting to medical treatment is not always a given.

For patients facing serious health conditions, distance and cost can stand between them and the care they need. Mercy Medical Angels works to remove that barrier, ensuring that transportation is never the reason someone misses a critical appointment.

Sedona Taphouse didn’t just raise funds—it helped raise awareness, connecting more people to a mission that directly impacts their neighbors.

A Meaningful Result, One Meal at a Time

By the end of March, the community’s participation had added up. The Dine Out for Charity evenings raised a total of $318 in support of Mercy Medical Angels.

While the number may seem modest at first glance, its impact reaches far beyond the dollar amount. Every contribution helps fuel the organization’s ability to provide transportation to medical care—whether through gas cards, rideshare support, commercial airline tickets or volunteer pilot flights.

It’s a reminder that impact is not always measured in size, but in intention and consistency. Week after week, diners showed up, ordered with purpose and became part of something bigger than themselves.

“A whopping 3,080 trips helping patients get to critical medical treatment across the country.”

That number continues to grow because of partnerships like this—partnerships rooted in community, compassion and a shared desire to help others move forward.

Local Business, Lasting Impact

Sedona Taphouse’s commitment to supporting nonprofit organizations reflects the strength and generosity of the Hampton Roads community. By dedicating time, resources and energy to causes like Mercy Medical Angels, local businesses play a vital role in strengthening the safety net for those in need.

General Manager Chuck and his team demonstrated how quickly a new business can become an active force for good. In just a few short months, they not only established themselves within the community, but also contributed to a mission that changes lives every day.

Their efforts show that giving back doesn’t require decades of history—it starts with a decision.

And that decision can inspire others to follow.

Building a Stronger Path Forward

At Mercy Medical Angels, every partnership helps expand access to care. Whether it’s a cross-country flight for specialized treatment or a simple ride to a local appointment, transportation to medical care is often the first step toward healing.

Collaborations like the one with Sedona Taphouse reinforce the idea that everyone has a role to play. From nonprofit organizations to local restaurants to individual diners, each connection helps move patients closer to the care they need.

As Mercy Medical Angels continues its mission, the support of community partners remains essential. Together, these efforts create a network of hope—one that ensures no patient is left behind because they cannot get there.
