In 2023, Emily graduated with her master's degree in architecture. She found work as a paid intern, and managed to pay off her student loans. Her future was looking bright... until poor health interrupted it.
Emily had been suffering from chronic fatigue for years. She always managed to push through it. But this ended up affecting her health even more. When she went for medical testing, she found out she carried the Epstein-Barr virus and that it was active.
Doctors in Emily's hometown of Belen, New Mexico couldn't help her. She would have to fly to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota - almost 1,000 miles away from her home. But she couldn't afford the cost of travel on top of medical bills. Thus began a restless search for resources.
Luckily, Emily's restlessness was relieved. She found out about Mercy Medical Angels. Through a partnership with American Airlines, Mercy Medical Angels got Emily to the specialists at Mayo Clinic.
Emily will need more help in the future. But now she knows where to turn. She said of Mercy Medical Angels, "The team I worked with to get my flights were amazing and so nice!"
"They took so much stress off an already stressful situation. Thank you to Mercy Medical Angels, thank you to American Airlines. You changed my life for the better!"
