Gas Cards Help Woman Beat Cancer

February 15, 2025
Woman with cancer who received treatment at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida thanks to gas cards

Cancer Strikes

In 2024, Laura was getting ready to celebrate her 60th birthday. But just a few months short of her big day, she started having some health problems. She went to the doctor to find out what was going on. The doctors ordered tests, and the results struck Laura's life like a missile: she had cancer.

Ready To Fight Back

Laura may have been knocked down by the bad news, but she quickly got back up again. She wasn't going to give up without a fight. Doctors said that Laura would need many months of chemo, and immunotherapy after that. The best place for her to go for these treatments was Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

From Hitting A Wall...

Unfortunately, Laura soon encountered a problem. She was having financial troubles, as insurance only covered part of her cancer treatment. As a result, driving to and from Mayo Clinic was becoming too expensive. Laura had hit a wall in her battle against cancer. How could she access the care she needed to beat cancer?

...To Hitting The Road

That was when Laura found out about Mercy Medical Angels. She applied for charitable transportation assistance. Mercy Medical Angels sent Laura free gas cards. This made it possible for her to receive life-saving cancer treatment at Mayo Clinic.

A Reason to Celebrate

Laura is now well on her way to winning the battle against cancer. She credits Mercy Medical Angels for helping her get to this point. Her sixth decade on this planet may have been off to a difficult start. But it's getting better every day. Soon enough, Laura will beat cancer - and that will be a reason to celebrate!
