Woman with rare neuro-degenerative disease after receiving surgery thanks to charitable flights

In Her Own Words...

"I have a neurodegenerative disease, Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) disease. It causes the peripheral nerves to die, which then causes muscle atrophy, and deformity. It makes my balance unstable, and walking is painful. In addition, I am a disabled single mom of 2 teens, with no family support. Maintaining my mobility and activity levels for as long as possible is hugely important to me."

"Most foot & ankle surgeons have scant experience operating on feet like mine, although they try their best. My right foot has already been surgically altered by a local foot and ankle specialist. But, I needed to travel to see a surgeon who has the most experience in the world for treating some of the symptoms of my disease. This would give me more mobility and less pain."

"I applied to Mercy Medical Angels for assistance with traveling to see the surgeon, and I was accepted. They booked me a flight on Delta Airlines. Delta Airlines was helpful and accommodating, especially for my return journey. My leg was in a cast, zero weight bearing, and I had medical equipment to transport. They assigned great seats so I could manage."

"I am very grateful to Mercy Medical Angels and their donors for making my medical treatment possible. Without you, I would not have been able to get the care I received. THANK YOU!"
