Endometriosis Patient Flies to Out-of-State Surgery

October 13, 2021

Twelve Years of Suffering

In 2009, Emmabeth was diagnosed with uterine fibroids and endometriosis. She suffered from extreme pain. Local doctors were unable to remove them safely, so Emmabeth had to live with the symptoms for twelve years.

Out of State...

Fast forward to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. “I was laid off from my job,” said Emmabeth, “and I was in serious need of out-of-state surgery.”

There was just one problem, and it would be hard to solve. The best doctors to perform the surgery were in Atlanta, Georgia – more than 300 miles away from her home in Arlington, Tennessee. If she drove, the trip would take 6 hours each way. She didn’t have the energy or funds for such a long trip.

Her next option was to fly to Atlanta from Memphis. But she didn’t have the resources to pay for a round-trip flight. “I am not in a position to pay for these services,” said Emmabeth.

...But Not Out of Reach

That was when Mercy Medical Angels stepped in. “My story of 12 years took a turn,” said Emmabeth, “when Mercy Medical Angels approved me for an airplane ticket.” Mercy Medical Angels arranged travel, while the Hogan Foundation helped to pay for the round-trip tickets.

Once in Atlanta, Emmabeth received the surgery she needed. With endometriosis and fibroids removed, the pain she had lived with for twelve years finally went away.

"Blessed and Impressed"

Emmabeth says that the travel assistance from Mercy Medical Angels changed her life. “When I received the airplane ticket, it was a ticket to better health.” She adds, “They made it possible for me to receive the surgery and to fly home safely afterwards!”

“I am blessed and impressed. I thank the Lord for Mercy Medical Angels!”
