Tricia: Winning the Race Against Cancer

September 11, 2020

Race Against the Clock

Tricia lives in Los Angeles. The city is home to a racetrack, theme parks, and Hollywood, just to name a few attractions. However, her life isn’t all speedways, smiles, and spotlights. Recently, it has been a difficult race against the clock.

A few years ago, Tricia found signs of breast cancer. She went to the doctor; turns out, nothing was wrong. Still, her doctor insisted on checking every six months. “As we’ve all heard from the doctor’s office before,” said Tricia, “no news is good news.” Then the pandemic hit, and with it, a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Out of Control

As if the cancer diagnosis wasn’t enough, Tricia’s life only got worse. “It was such an overwhelming situation,” said Tricia, “mentally, physically, and financially.”

She got laid off from her job. Unemployment couldn’t cover all her expenses, especially the steep medical bills. Her specialist was located at Forsythe Cancer Care Center in Nevada – almost 500 miles away. She couldn’t afford a plane ticket, let alone gas in her car.

“I really needed assistance for the cost of traveling for treatment,” said Tricia. Everything was spiraling out of control. It seemed Tricia was about to lose the race against cancer.

Back in the Race

That was when Tricia found out about Mercy Medical Angels’ ground transportation program. Mercy Medical Angels raced to the rescue by sending her multiple gas cards. This made it possible for her to drive to the hospital in Reno, without breaking the bank.

“The gas cards helped immensely, said Tricia, “since I was not able to fly.” She had to drive to and from Reno for multiple rounds of treatment. Tricia was back in the race, and she had a chance at victory.

In It to Win It

Nowadays, Tricia is doing much better. The cancer is on its way out. Tricia can’t help but express her gratitude: “Mercy Medical Angels is such a wonderful organization! They give much-needed support in these times to individuals who have challenging circumstances.”

When cancer strikes, it can seem all hope is lost. But with help from Mercy Medical Angels’ ground transportation program, cancer patients like Tricia can win the race against cancer!
