“Unfortunately, this is not my first cancer battle,” said Kerry. “My struggles against this dreaded disease go back to 2013.” But this time around was different. Kerry couldn’t receive treatment locally, as he had before. He had to travel to New Jersey. MD Anderson Cooper in Camden had pioneered a procedure that could beat the cancer for good.
There was just one problem. Depending on which route he took, the driving distance ranged from 280 miles to almost 350 miles. He’d have to spend at least five hours in the car – and that’s not counting the inevitable traffic jams along the way. Not to mention, he didn’t have the funds for gas.
Kerry was trapped in a corner. It seemed he had no way out.
When the fight seems too tough, that’s when angels enter in. In Kerry’s case, the angels came from Mercy Medical Angels’ volunteer pilot program. The pilots flew Kerry from his home in Virginia to MD Anderson Cooper in New Jersey.
“Mercy Medical Angels couldn't have come at a better time for me,” said Kerry. “They made it possible for me to access this procedure."
Now, Kerry is doing much better. He can enjoy the days of summer sunshine without worrying about cancer coming back to haunt him. Kerry said, “Mercy Medical Angels is a true blessing!”
When cancer storms into a person's life, it can feel like a boxing match. Trapped. Intimidated. No way out - except to battle. Luckily for cancer patients like Kerry, they don’t have to take on this tough opponent alone. Mercy Medical Angels is in their corner, ready to provide much-needed support. And when you have a strong corner, cancer can get knocked out!
