Couple finds relief after husband accesses treatment, thanks to charitable transportation

Chronic Illness and Complications

Four years ago, Carl was diagnosed with a chronic illness. The pain it gave him made it impossible for him to work, so he applied for disability. But his application was delayed. In the meantime, his wife Jesseca worked part-time jobs. Their friends pitched in when money got tight.

From Desperation...

As if the financial struggles and chronic illness weren't enough, there was another problem. Carl needed to see a team of specialists for his chronic illness. These doctors were three hours away from his home. Sometimes he'd have to cancel appointments, because driving so far became prohibitively expensive.

It wasn't until recently that Carl began to receive his disability check. It was a relief to have steady income. But driving six hours round-trip would take a considerable amount of that check. He would sometimes have to choose between living expenses and his appointments.

...To Determination

That was when Carl found about Mercy Medical Angels' charitable transportation programs. He applied for help as soon as he could - and  unlike with disability, there was almost no delay in getting approved. He is now able to make it to all of his medical appointments. Also, his quality of life is improving, now that he can access the care he needs.

This gave Carl a new sense of determination. Chronic illness had knocked him down, but he wasn't out. He would continue to fight - and live.

"Thank You From the Bottom of Our Hearts!"

When asked why people should donate to Mercy Medical Angels, Carl's answer comes from a place of relief and gratitude. "The hard work of all of you and the donations of supporters means more than we can put into words," said Carl. "We are just so grateful for the kindness of everyone involved. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!"
