Woman with Eye Cancer Flies to Life-Saving Treatment

Woman with eye cancer after receiving treatment, thanks to charitable flights on American Airlines

Challenged by Eye Cancer

Constance has enjoyed a long life. But as she got older, one health complication after another tried to strike her down. Fibromyalgia caused her to flare up with pain. She developed a heart condition and a problem with her lungs. Her spine began to weaken. More recently, Constance has faced yet another challenge: eye cancer.

A Shot in the Dark...

The best doctors to treat Constance's form of eye cancer were located at a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. There was just one problem, and it was a big one. Constance lives in West Virginia - more than 533 miles away from the hospital by air.

A round-trip airline ticket would be too expensive for Constance's limited income. But driving to Boston wasn't a viable option either. Constance had no idea where to turn. It seemed like accessing care was a shot in the dark, with no guarantee of reaching its target.

...Reaches the Light

In moments of darkness and desperation, it can be difficult to find the light. At a critical point,  Constance found a team of angels that would help her - Mercy Medical Angels, to be exact!

Mercy Medical Angels teamed up with American Airlines to send a round-trip airline ticket to Constance. This ensured that she had charitable transportation to the care she needed. It wasn't an ordinary ticket from West Virginia to Boston. It was a ticket from pain to healing, and from despair to hope.

"You're the Best Team..."

When asked how Mercy Medical Angels helped her, Constance's answer is filled with emotion. Gratitude and relief shine through her voice. "Everyone was very friendly and understanding," said Constance. "You're the best team I could possibly ask for."

"All you people at Mercy Medical Angels are truly a Godsend. May God bless all of you!"
