Woman with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) after receiving treatment thanks to charitable flights

In Her Own Words...

"I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) about a year ago. The treatments I needed weren't available in my hometown, so I needed to see a specialist at MD Anderson in Houston. Spending a year away from home for cancer treatment began to take a toll on my mental health. I was homesick and missed my family. My medical team agreed to let me go home to Memphis, but I still had to return to Houston once a month for treatments."

"Unfortunately, the treatments were not going as expected. I had to fly back and forth more frequently. It was getting prohibitively expensive. I talked with other patients in waiting areas. After sharing how expensive the treatments and travel costs were for me and my family, some of them brought up Mercy Medical Angels and their volunteer pilot program."

"Mercy Medical Angels' volunteer pilots flew me to and from treatment for free. The volunteer pilot flights helped me regain some financial stability, and also helped me maintain my mental and physical wellness. I would not have been able to access cancer treatment and the comforts of home at the same time if it weren't for their help. In the meantime, my quality of life is improving. Thank you Mercy Medical Angels, and thank you to the volunteer pilots - I can count on you to help!"
