Stories from Grateful Patients: Emma

Teenager with multiple conditions after receiving treatment, thanks to charitable flights

In Her Family's Words...

"When Emma was 11, she sprained her ankle, which led to CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome). She was also diagnosed with a lot of other conditions as time went on. Emma needs a wheelchair to get anywhere, otherwise she's bed-bound due to the extreme pain and risk of injury. We live in New Hampshire and we've traveled to many different states hoping to find treatment that will improve Emma's life."

"Dr. Hanna in Florida was the only doctor who was able to help Emma. He prescribed a high dosage of ketamine infusions. These infusions give Emma enough energy to live her life and also reduce her pain. However, they have to be administered every eight weeks. The high expenses of frequently traveling to care, in addition to the costly treatments - it all burned a hole in our savings."

"Mercy Medical Angels and the Hogan Family Foundation helped us so much. They coordinated and paid for flights so that Emma could continue her treatment in Florida. Thanks to them, Emma can go to school and hang out with her friends. Her quality of life is so much better now that we can get her the care she needs and not have to worry as much about the money."

"I have to really thank Mercy Medical Angels and the Hogan Family Foundation. Without the flights, Emma's treatment would not be possible. Thank you, again and again!"

~Elizabeth (Emma's mother)
