Lamar lives in a small town in Alabama. Life was uneventful until 2021. That year, Lamar was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Thankfully, Lamar was not alone in his struggle. His daughter stepped in to become his primary caregiver and drove him to medical appointments. They also began to research organizations that could help in other ways.
The American Cancer Society provided some resources. With those resources, Lamar found a doctor in Birmingham who could effectively treat pancreatic cancer – and maybe even put it into remission.
The biggest need that Lamar faced was the cost of these round trips to and from medical appointments. The total distance covered almost 200 miles.
Gas for that long of a trip would be far too expensive just one time. Multiple drives would put Lamar and his family into a deep financial hole. How would Lamar access the care he needed?
That was when Lamar found out about Mercy Medical Angels’ charitable ground transportation program. Mercy Medical Angels sent Lamar gas cards. Now, his daughter could drive him to and from medical appointments without worrying about the money.
With the financial stress taken away, Lamar could focus on healing.
Lamar is currently preparing for more rounds of treatment. But he knows that Mercy Medical Angels will continue to send him gas cards – until he wins the fight against pancreatic cancer.
“I can't say it enough times," said Lamar, "but thank you again for the gas cards."
“Thank you for all of your help!”
