Woman with Levator Ani Syndrome Finds Life-Changing Care

January 18, 2024
Woman with Levator Ani Syndrome after accessing life-changing care at Beaumont Hospital in Detroit

Complications from Levator Ani Syndrome

Tessa was diagnosed with Levator Ani Syndrome in the early months of 2023. Levator Ani Syndrome stems from damage to the pudendal nerve, which is located in the pelvic area.

When the pudendal nerve doesn't function as it should, a cluster of complications follows close behind. These issues range from chronic pain and limited mobility, to urinary and bowel incontinence.

More Questions Than Answers

After the diagnosis, Tessa's life changed for the worse. Instead of giving up, she dove into research. But because her condition was so rare, she had more questions than answers. The biggest question came in two parts: where could she go to find the best treatment, and how would she get there?

Problems With Travel...

The first part of that question resolved itself with further research. Tessa found a team of specialists at Beaumont Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. These doctors were the foremost experts on Levator Ani Syndrome. They knew how to treat - and even cure - this condition.

But the second part of the question remained uncertain. Tessa lives near Charleston, South Carolina - more than 680 miles away by air. But she couldn't afford a round-trip airline ticket. At the same time, there was no way Tessa could sit in the car for 13 hours. Neither option was feasible. Would the problems with travel prevent her from accessing the care she needed?

...Now Solved

With nowhere to turn, Tessa talked to one of her medical caseworkers. The caseworker told her about Mercy Medical Angels. Armed with new hope, Tessa applied online for assistance. The transportation coordinators at Mercy Medical Angels soon replied to her. Tessa qualified for charitable medical flights, and traveled to Beaumont Hopsital with Delta Airlines.

Once with the specialists, Tessa received an operation. The results were clear: her quality of life dramatically improved. She was entering a new chapter of her life.

"The Communication Was Excellent..."

Tessa is back home and living life to the fullest. She may have health issues in the future. But now she doesn't have to face them alone - because Mercy Medical Angels will help in her time of need.

"The communication was excellent," said Tessa. "Everyone there was professional and kind. If it weren't for Mercy Medical Angels and Delta Airlines, I would not have been able to receive this life-changing operation."

"Thank you, Mercy Medical Angels!"
