Gas Cards Ensure Patient Can Find Specialized Care

Patient after finding specialized care, thanks to charitable transportation assistance

Drastic Accident

Kaitlyn lives in a small town in California. She likes to cook. But one day, this normally enjoyable activity led to a drastic accident.

“I was handling a well-sharpened chef’s knife,” said Kaitlyn, “and it slipped.” The blade sliced through her hand - including two main tendons in her fingers.

Needing Specialized Care

After the accident in the kitchen, Kaitlyn needed emergency surgery to repair her hand. Although the surgery was successful, her hands became clumsy and stiff. She would need specialized care.

Kaitlyn found an occupational therapists’ practice. The doctors at this practice worked specifically with people who had severe hand injuries. If she could get there, she would have the best chance of regaining the use of her hand.

Hope Struck Down...

However, a problem struck down Kaitlyn’s hopes of healing. The occupational therapists she needed to see were located in Grass Valley, California. It was a long drive, and she couldn’t drive safely with her injury.

She found a friend to take her there and back. But neither of them could afford the high price of gas. How would Kaitlyn receive the specialized care she needed?

...Now Stands Up

Even in difficult situations, hope has a way of standing back up. This hope came to Kaitlyn when she found out about Mercy Medical Angels’ ground transportation program.

Mercy Medical Angels sent her free gas cards. With help from her friend and charitable transportation assistance from Mercy Medical Angels, Kaitlyn could see the occupational therapist.

"Thank You So Much..."

Kaitlyn’s struggles aren’t quite done yet. At the beginning of her journey, she had to go on her own. But as she continues, the road she walks isn’t so lonely anymore. She knows Mercy Medical Angels is there to help.

“I’m already regaining mobility and dexterity,” said Kaitlyn. “Mercy Medical Angels really increased my quality of life.”

“Thank you so much for all you do!”
