Stories from Grateful Patients: Linda’s Story

Mercy Medical Angels helps patient with rare disease fly to Mayo Clinic for specialized care.

In Her Own Words...

“I have MEN type 1, a rare hereditary endocrine condition. It affects the pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, spleen, adrenal glands, kidneys, gastrointestinal system, bones, and joints. MEN type 1 has been really challenging to try to live with, and it interrupts many life events."

"Specialists who know how to perform specific scans, blood tests, and surgeries give me the best chance at living a better life. Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota has a lot of experience treating and operating on MEN type 1. However, I live almost 575 miles away from Mayo Clinic. I can’t afford to travel that distance, because I recently lost work and my only source of income is disability payments."

"Mercy Medical Angels has helped me several times. They helped me make trips to get specialized care for MEN type 1 at Mayo Clinic, traveling with American Airlines. Flying on a commercial aircraft with a restroom on board helped me immensely, as I traveled alone to receive much-needed medical care. My flight was great."

"Thank you so much for helping make my life more comfortable, while trying to live with this very difficult diagnosis of MEN type 1. I would not have been able to access the care I needed if it weren’t for Mercy Medical Angels and American Airlines. They have increased my quality of life."

"Thank you again!”
