Stage IV Breast Cancer Patient Accesses Life-Saving Treatment at MD Anderson

March 25, 2022

 Fighting Stage IV Breast Cancer

Serenity lives in California with her son. At the time of her diagnosis with Stage IV Breast Cancer, her son was only two years old. The oncologist told her she had three months left to live.

“I refused, in a haze, to take that prognosis for an answer,” said Serenity. “I was determined to fight but I didn’t know where to turn next.”

Hope and Healing... Almost 1,500 Miles Away

One of Serenity’s friends decided to research different cancer centers. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston offered the best chance at helping Serenity. There was even a glimmer of hope that they could save her life.

There was only one problem. MD Anderson is almost 1,500 miles away from Serenity’s home. Her income is limited. She has to take care of her son, as well as take care of herself. Traveling to the treatment she needed would be almost impossible.

Charitable Transportation Saves the Day

That was when Serenity found out about Mercy Medical Angels. With funding from the American Cancer Society, Mercy Medical Angels secured round-trip tickets, and Serenity was able to fly to MD Anderson for cancer treatment – at no cost.

“In the three months that I was given to live, MD Anderson did not give up on me,” said Serenity. The doctors that treated her “sped into high gear.” Over those three months, Serenity had the best care possible. The flights from Mercy Medical Angels and the American Cancer Society saved her life.

Not Giving Up

Serenity isn’t giving up her battle against Stage IV breast cancer. She has “top of the line doctors” continuing to help her. Mercy Medical Angels and the American Cancer Society will keep flying her until she’s in remission.

Every day, cancer patients like Serenity find healing and hope through Mercy Medical Angels’ charitable transportation services. They’re not giving up in the fight against cancer– and neither are we.
