WHYY Broadcast, “Delaware Tonight,” July 1, 2009

Angel Flight pilot Brett Lunger, Delaware’s Pilot of the Year, is spotlighted in this excellent news feature, along with his co-pilot and wife, Caroline Lunger, as they transport a patient, helping her “rise above the burdens of illness” in the words of a WHYY news anchor.

Angel Flight teams with Victory Junction

In our public service announcement, Richard and Kyle Petty explain how Angel Flight and Victory Junction Gang Camp team together to change the lives of children with special needs.

The camp, with its NASCAR theme, offers a week of exciting activities including horseback riding, swimming, fishing, hot air balloon rides and other fun for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. A medical staff is available at all times. Angel Flight pilots give free airplane rides to and from camp for children who have no other way to get there.

Richard and Kyle Petty care about the race, as you will see in our public service announcement. NASCAR and the human race inspired the Pettys to create Victory Junction Gang Camp for special needs children, and Angel Flight pilots make sure they get there for the fun.

Angel Flight Featured on the Today Show

Watch this deeply moving Today Show segment with Katie Couric as she meets an Angel Flight pilot and passengers—a teenaged boy afflicted with an inoperable brain tumor and his tender-hearted father.

NBC’s Today selected Angel Flight for a special “Who We Admire” series. Volunteer pilot Richard Love transported 14-year-old Mitchell and his father, Jack, to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as their last best hope for treatment. Couric met them on the tarmac at the Teterboro airport near New York City for the interview. Sadly, Mitchell passed away a few weeks later.
